The Golden State Warriors are an American professional basketball team based in San Francisco, California. The Warriors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. Founded in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors, they relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area and were renamed for their state symbol shortly thereafter; since 1971, they have played home games at Chase Center on Market Street in downtown San Francisco.

The team has won six NBA championships—in 1956 (as the Philadelphia Warriors), 1975, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019—which ties them with four other franchises for most all-time by any North American major sports league franchise. Along with their five titles won while located in Oakland from 1947–1971 and one title while representing both cities between 1972–1975 following relocation to join forces with former NBA rivals -the then newly formed San Diego Rockets- , making it seven total titles overall thus far including three under current head coach Steve Kerr who took over during 2014 off season..
