United States government

The United States government, commonly referred to as the federal government of the United States or simply the US Government, is a constitutional republic with three branches: executive, legislative and judicial. The powers and duties of these branches are defined by the U.S. Constitution which was adopted in 1789 and has been amended twenty-seven times since then.

The executive branch consists of the President who is both head of state and Commander in Chief along with his cabinet members who help him administer federal laws; governors representing each State also have some responsibilities related to implementation at their own level within their respective states/territories (as do local governments). The Vice-President serves as president if there is a vacancy for any reason; he may also be called upon to preside over Senate deliberations when necessary.

The legislative branch includes Congress consisting of two chambers—the House of Representatives (435 voting members) and Senate (100 Senators)—which pass all national legislation through majority vote on bills proposed by either chamber’s committees or its individual members themselves so long as they comply with various procedural rules such as introducing them into both houses before being sent off for Presidential approval or vetoing power depending on circumstances outlined within Article I Section 7 Clause 2 . An independent agency known as Library Of Congress provides research services to assist congressional decision making process while CRS Reports provide non-partisan summaries that can help inform public opinion regarding important issues facing lawmakers today..
