Television by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 97 Television (TV) is a telecommunication medium used for transmitting moving images in monochrome (black-and-white), or in color, and in two or three dimensions and sound. The term can refer to a television set, a television program (“TV show”), or the medium of television transmission. Television is an important part of modern culture and has had immense influence on world events since its inception. The first practical system was developed by John Logie Baird in 1928. It was based on Paul Nipkow’s rotating disk technology, which allowed him to receive still pictures via wire from London stations over four hundred miles away using electromagnets connected along telephone lines that transmitted signals representing different shades of light intensity through electrical pulses. Later improvements included cathode ray tubes—which were invented by Karl Ferdinand Braun in 1897—for producing brighter images with greater detail resolution; colored transmissions followed shortly thereafter when Scottish engineer George Minchin created them commercially available 1932–33. FM radio broadcasts also began during this era as well as remote control systems allowing people watch TV without having get up off their seat change channels manually – these features are now commonplace today most sets being manufactured include such features standard equipment..
