‘General Hospital’ dominates 50th annual Daytime Emmys with 6 trophies, Susan Lucci honored

The 50th annual Daytime Emmy Awards saw “General Hospital” emerge as the dominant force, securing six trophies, with notable honors going to Susan Lucci. Thorsten Kaye and Jacqueline MacInnes Wood from “The Bold and the Beautiful” claimed lead acting accolades, while “General Hospital” took home four awards for acting.

Alley Mills, best known for her role as the mother on “The Wonder Years,” won for her guest performance on a daytime drama. She spoke about the challenges she faced, including the loss of her husband, actor Orson Bean, in 2020, and how her role on “General Hospital” helped her persevere.

In addition to its acting and drama awards, “General Hospital” also triumphed in the directing category.

Susan Lucci, famous for her 40-year portrayal of Erica Kane on “All My Children,” received the Lifetime Achievement Honor. Lucci, who had been nominated 18 times in the lead actress category without a win before breaking the streak in 1999, reflected on her journey with gratitude.

Other notable wins included “The Young and the Restless” for outstanding writing team and Kelly Clarkson for her daytime talk series and host awards. “Entertainment Tonight” secured its eighth trophy as outstanding entertainment news series.
