Comedy by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 65 Comedy is a form of entertainment and art composed of jokes, skits and other humorous elements. It is used as an outlet to express ideas in a creative way while making people laugh. Comedy can be seen in many forms such as stand-up comedy, sketch comedy, improv comedy, satire or dark humor. The origin of the word “comedy” comes from ancient Greek theater where comedies were performed during festivals honoring the god Dionysus. These plays typically featured characters that embodied certain aspects of humanity such as ambition or cowardice which would lead them through comedic situations including exaggerated behavior and witty dialogue. The comedians would often use double entendres to make their audience laugh by poking fun at society’s expectations for proper behavior without offending anyone directly with rude comments or insults. Today there are numerous styles and types of modern day comedy which range from lighthearted family friendly content all the way up to more mature themes like vulgarity or political subjects depending on who it’s being made for; television shows like Saturday Night Live blur the lines between these two extremes by providing sketches that appeal to both groups simultaneously while still appealing specifically towards one demographic over another without alienating either side completely.. Stand-up comedians also provide performances tailored towards different audiences based on their personal comedic style whether it may be observational commentary about everyday life experiences (Jerry Seinfeld), crudely explicit subject matter (Dave Chappelle) or even deadpan delivery with no punchlines whatsoever (Steven Wright). There are various levels upon which one can view its material; some find only surface level enjoyment whereas others look deeper into what lies beneath each joke weaved together within an entire performance set piece . In addition to live performances delivered publicly before large crowds, today’s culture has allowed for other ways in order consume laughter such as online videos uploaded onto Youtube channels like “Bad Lip Reading” wherein they take audio clips from popular movies/tv show scenes then dubbing new words overtop creating comical scenarios out nothing but recycled footage . Likewise social media outlets have provided platforms for artists share short video skits known collectively under hashtags #comedyskitsofinstagram & #tiktokhumor whereupon users post quick funniest moments ranging anywhere 10 seconds – 2 minutes long showcasing their own unique brand wit & creativity instantly receiving feedback usually measured likes retweets etc… Ultimately regardless how much technology advances our methods gathering around sharing stories will remain same ultimately seeking connect us closer forming relationships amongst strangers alike allowing spread joy throughout world little bit further every single day!
