Cleveland by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 66 Cleveland is a major city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the southern shore of Lake Erie. It is the county seat of Cuyahoga County and the largest city in Northeast Ohio with an estimated population of 389,521 people as of 2019. The Cleveland metropolitan area includes several counties such as Summit, Geauga, Portage and Medina with a total population estimated at 2 million residents making it one of the largest metro areas in Ohio and 45th-largest metropolitan statistical area (MSA) in United States. The city was founded by General Moses Cleaveland after surveyors from Connecticut arrived to settle what would later become known as “The Western Reserve”. In 1831 Cleveland became an incorporated village; its charter becoming effective that April 30 when voters elected twelve trustees including General Cleaveland himself who served for two years before retiring back to his home town Connecticut where he passed away just four months shy off his 81st birthday on November 16th 1806.
