It’s March Madness time! Here is what you need to know about the NCAA Women’s basketball tournament, including teams that we think will do well and those who are likely to be surprising dark horses. Plus, we’ll tell you which games have the most potential for excitement and how you can watch them all. Let’s start with the top seeded teams!

Four teams are competing in a tournament: South Carolina, Indiana, Virginia Tech and Stanford. Each team is playing in a different region — some tougher than others.

South Carolina is the No. 1 seed – they’re also the defending national champions! Their region looks good for them because Maryland (No. 2 seed) and UCLA (No. 4 seed) are also included – two teams that South Carolina has already beaten this season! On top of that, they have two players who are stars: Aliyah Boston, who’s been named Southeastern Conference Player of the Year twice, and Zia Cooke, their leading scorer.

The Indiana Hoosiers are a top seed in the Greenville II Region after an unexpected loss in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. They’ll be playing either Tennessee Tech or Monmouth first. Mackenzie Holmes is their main player, with 22.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Even though they have a great chance of winning, there are teams to watch out for — Utah, LSU and Villanova will all be fighting them for the title. Villanova has Maddy Siegrist as their star scorer.

Virginia Tech won an awesome championship and they’re the leaders of the Seattle 3 Region. Elizabeth Kitley helped make it all possible, ’cause Virginia Tech won its last eight games! The Sweet 16 could be a challenge if they have to play against No. 4 seed Tennessee or either of the two others — No. 2 seed UConn or No. 3 seed Ohio State.

Stanford University has a great team this season, made up of Cameron Brink and Haley Jones. They each score about 28 points per game, making them a strong group to beat. The committee was impressed with their results so far and gave them the top seed in the Seattle 4 Region playoffs. They have a tough competition coming up as they might face off against Iowa, who is led by Caitlin Clark who is one of the best players in the country right now!

Battling for a Final Four

Friday will see the No. 3 seed Notre Dame (25-5) face off against No. 14 seed Southern Utah (23-6). An important factor that could determine how successful the Fighting Irish are in their tournament is whether their crucial leader, Olivia Miles, is able to play after she got hurt during a quarterfinals game two weeks ago.

On Thursday, Monmouth (18-13) and Tennessee Tech (22-9) will play against each other in a game that’s going to be aired on ESPNU. This is a chance for Monmouth, who won the Colonial Athletic Association tournament unexpectedly, to extend their stay in the NCAA Tournament since they haven’t been in it since 1983! The winner of the match between these two teams will have to play the first seed team Indiana on Friday.

This Saturday, the No. 5 seed team Louisville (23-11) will be in a game against the No. 12 seed team Drake (22-9). Last year, Louisville was part of the Final Four and they are hoping to return this time too. In order to do that, their mission starts with beating Drake who won 4th place in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament but also won against Belmont, earning themselves an automatic berth into the competition. Hailey Van Lith is an important player for Louisville; she has scored 19.2 points on average in this season!

On Saturday, two teams will be facing each other: No.4 seed Villanova (28-6) and No.13 seed Cleveland State (30-4). Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist is their top star and she has previously become the Big East Player of the Year twice! The region that Villanova is in is difficult to get out of because No.1 seed Indiana, No.2 seed Utah, and No.3 seed LSU stand ahead of them as they attempt this feat. Cleveland State just won Horizon League and made it into NCAA games for the first time since 2010 – so they have something to prove too!

It’s time to make some predictions! Who will win the national championship this year? According to FanDuel Sportsbook, South Carolina is likely to be the frontrunner. If they win, they’ll be the first team to repeat as champs since UConn won four championships in a row from 2012-2015. The other teams with a good chance of making it to the Final Four are UConn, Stanford, Indiana, Iowa and LSU.

Selection Sunday has set the schedule for the March Madness tournament. The First Four teams (March 15-16) and first- and second-round games (March 17-20) will be happening in different places around the U.S.

This year, the women’s teams have something special planned for Sweet 16 weekend. Instead of four regional sites, there are going to be two: Greenville, South Carolina, and Seattle will each host eight teams!

The women’s Final Four is taking place in Dallas from March 31 to April 2. Meanwhile, the men’s Final Four is happening four hours away in Houston that same weekend.
