Trevor Bauer, Former MLB Pitcher, and Accuser Resolve 2021 Legal Battle

Former Major League Baseball pitcher Trevor Bauer and a woman who had alleged he physically and sexually assaulted her in 2021 have reached a legal settlement, according to a statement released by Bauer’s legal team on Monday.

“Both parties have conclusively withdrawn their respective claims with prejudice, effective immediately,” said attorneys Jon Fetterolf and Shawn Holley in an official communication.

In July 2021, Bauer, who was then with the Los Angeles Dodgers, was put on administrative leave by MLB following accusations by the woman. She claimed that Bauer had assaulted her twice at his residence in Pasadena during what initially started as consensual sexual interactions.

Bauer, who is 32 years old, refuted these claims, insisting that the interactions between them had been consensual.

The prosecutors elected not to press charges against Bauer in February 2022.

An independent arbitrator reduced Major League Baseball’s unprecedented 324-game suspension of Bauer to 194 games in December 2022. Following the end of his suspension, Bauer was released by the Dodgers and remains unsigned by any other MLB team. He is currently playing baseball in Japan.

Both Bauer and the woman had filed lawsuits against each other. The settlement stipulates that no money will be exchanged between Bauer and the woman, although she will receive a separate $300,000 payout from an insurance company, as informed by her attorney, Jesse Kaplan, through a letter to Bauer’s legal representatives.

Bauer, in a video statement, expressed that the financial aspect of the lawsuit was secondary to him. “The focus of this lawsuit was never financial gain; rather, it was my sole avenue for securing crucial information to exonerate my name,” he said.

Bauer also mentioned that, per the terms of the settlement, he retains the right to publicly discuss the case. “Over the past two years, I have had to protect my reputation and integrity in a very public manner. Hopefully, this will be the last time I need to do so. I’d prefer to concentrate on my career, win baseball games, and bring enjoyment to fans globally. Today marks a significant step in moving forward with my life,” Bauer stated.

In a separate but related matter, Bauer faces allegations from an Arizona woman, claiming that he threatened her with a knife and choked her to unconsciousness during an assault that resulted in her becoming pregnant in late 2020. Bauer, who was never arrested or charged in relation to these allegations, has countersued, denying the claims and accusing the woman of fabricating a pregnancy and attempting to extort him financially.
