The Broncos’ roster exemption for Jackson is set to expire on Monday, and they will need to create a roster spot for him by either parting ways with another player or releasing the 14-year NFL veteran.

However, the release of Jackson may not necessarily mark the end of his tenure in Denver. The Broncos could potentially re-sign him to their practice squad and then elevate him for their remaining two regular-season games and any playoff matchups if they qualify. During Jackson’s absence, PJ Locke has performed admirably and achieved a noteworthy feat as the first safety in franchise history to record quarterback sacks in three consecutive games. Jackson’s latest suspension was a result of an illegal high hit on Minnesota’s Joshua Dobbs.

Jackson, who is not involved in Denver’s special teams, has missed seven of the team’s last eight games. In the one game he did play during that stretch, he found himself in violation of the league’s unnecessary roughness rules with his first tackle. This hit on Dobbs, which went unflagged during the game, led to his subsequent suspension, which was upheld on appeal. This season, Jackson has lost $837,000 in paychecks due to suspensions and incurred $89,670 in fines for unsafe hits. Notably, a $43,709 fine for a hit on Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco in Week 6 was rescinded by the league.

Kareem Jackson, who transitioned from cornerback to safety, possesses a smaller stature for an NFL safety at 5-foot-10 and 183 pounds. However, he has compensated for his size with his hard-hitting style of play.
