Love ties career high with 3 TD passes, leads Packers to 29-22 win over NFC North-leading Lions

Jordan Love matched his personal best with three touchdown passes, guiding the Green Bay Packers to a 29-22 victory against the NFC North leaders, the Detroit Lions, in Thursday’s game.

Starting strong with a 53-yard throw to Christian Watson right off the bat, Love was a key factor in the Packers’ win, lifting their record to 5-6. The Packers capitalized on Detroit quarterback Jared Goff’s worst performance with three fumbles, including one that Green Bay returned for a touchdown in the opening quarter. Detroit’s head coach, Dan Campbell, took bold risks on fourth down, but they mostly backfired.

The Lions, holding an 8-3 record, attempted to convert on fourth down five times but succeeded only once during their final scoring drive. A notable gamble was their failed fake punt attempt in the third quarter, trailing by nine points.

Love’s 16-yard touchdown pass to Watson, following the botched fake punt, put the Packers ahead 29-14.

Goff narrowed the gap to a seven-point deficit with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Josh Reynolds and a 2-point conversion to Sam LaPorta, but the Lions couldn’t bridge the gap further. This struggle came just four days after their remarkable comeback against Chicago.

Detroit’s efforts ended in frustration, marked by a penalty for illegal formation on an attempted onside kick, capping off a disappointing day that began poorly for them.

Love completed 22 of 32 passes, throwing for 268 yards and three touchdowns, including a 37-yard dash on a quarterback-designed run late in the fourth quarter, securing the victory for Green Bay.

Rashan Gary’s stellar defense included a personal best of two forced fumbles and recovering one, along with matching his career-high three sacks against Goff.

Goff, on the other hand, completed 29 of 44 passes for 332 yards, delivering two touchdowns, one of which was a 7-yard pass to LaPorta during Detroit’s initial drive.

Injury Report:

Inactive for the Packers were RB Aaron Jones, CB Jaire Alexander, LB De’Vondre Campbell, S Rudy Ford, Dontayvion Wicks, and TE Josiah Deguara.

For the Lions, Guard Jonah Jackson was sidelined due to a wrist injury.
