Washington state government by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 49 Washington State Government is the government of the U.S. state of Washington, in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. The capital city is Olympia, where most departments and agencies are located; other major cities include Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma and Vancouver. The current governor is Jay Inslee (D), who took office January 16th 2013 for a four year term until 2017. The executive branch consists primarily of sixteen cabinet-level departments that provide centralized management over various parts of government operations: Agriculture; Commerce; Corrections; Early Learning & K-12 Education; Ecology; Emergency Management Division (EMD); Health Care Authority(HCA); Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB); Labor & Industries (L&I); Office Of Financial Management(OFM) ; Natural Resources ; Public Safety ; Revenue ; Social And Health Services(DSHS) Transportation , Veterans Affairs . There are also several independent boards such as Liquor Control Board or Utilities and Transportation Commission which have their own budgets but must act under authority given by legislature to regulate certain industries such as alcohol distribution or public transportation respectively . In addition there are some non-departmental entities created by legislative action with specific duties routed through department heads like Economic Development Finance Authority which manages economic development projects across various sectors within state borders on behalf funds appropriated from budget while Department Of Information Services provides central IT support services throughout all state offices including those managed by external agencies like University Of Washington or Central Washington University both overseen by HECB mentioned above .. At top level hierarchy sits Governor’s Executive Cabinet composed mostly out governors appointed agency directors along few senior staff members responsible for coordinating activities between different branches during transition period after election every 4 years when new administration takes power..
