Track and field by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 59 Track and field is a sport that combines athletics events such as running, jumping, throwing, and walking. It is one of the oldest sports in history with its origins dating back to 776 BCE when it was part of the original Olympic Games. The modern version has evolved over time into separate disciplines which are held at major international competitions such as the Olympics or World Championships. The two main categories within track and field include: track events (running) and field events (jumping, throwing). Track races can range from sprints distances up to long-distance running; while for field events athletes compete in activities like shot putt, javelin throw, high jump/long jump etc. Additionally there are also combined track & field competitions where points earned through individual event results contribute towards an overall team score – these are known as heptathlon or decathlon respectively depending on whether seven or ten different disciplines feature. At amateur level many countries have governing bodies responsible for organising local meets throughout the year; however most national teams will be focused around preparing for larger scale competition like European Athletics championships or Commonwealth games where medals may be won by individuals representing their country’s colours rather than clubs competing against each other directly. As well as this professional athletes often travel internationally seeking prize money available at renowned grand prix meetings hosted all around world – Diamond League being just one example here! Professionalism within sport means that more resources become available to coaches who then develop training programmes tailored specifically towards athlete needs plus improved facilities help ensure standards remain consistently high across board too – meaning we get see some truly incredible performances come out every now again! This further increases public interest surrounding discipline even further thus leading increased sponsorship deals / media coverage opportunities… All factors combine make sure crowds stay engaged no matter what continent they live on so everyone benefits ultimately!
