Texas state government by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 52 Texas state government is the governmental structure of the U.S. state of Texas as established by its Constitution and law, which consists of executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The capital city is Austin. Executive Branch: The Governor is head of the executive branch in Texas; he or she serves as commander-in-chief of the state’s military forces and has authority over all other offices within this branch (except where prohibited). The Lieutenant governor acts as President to preside over sessions during legislative meetings when necessary but otherwise only performs administrative duties while also serving on various committees when called upon by the Governor. Other statewide officers include Attorney General Ken Paxton, Comptroller Glenn Hegar, Commissioner George P Bush (Land Office), Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, Railroad Commission Ryan Sitton & Christi Craddick , State Treasurer Rolando Pablos & Supreme Court Chief Justice Nathan L Hecht .
