Terry Sanderson

by Joshua Brown

Terry Sanderson (born 1945) is an American professional golfer who has had a successful career in the sport since first turning pro in 1966. He has won four PGA Tour events, including one major championship – the 1980 U.S. Open – and five other tournaments on what is now known as the Champions Tour.

Early life and amateur career

Sanderson was born in San Diego, California, but grew up primarily in Oregon where he developed his game at various golf courses around Portland while caddying for local pros during summers off from school. After graduating high school he attended Arizona State University before eventually transferring to Brigham Young University after two years of study there; it wasn’t until then that he began playing competitively on college teams with some success against strong opponents such as Jack Nicklaus’ Ohio State team and future Masters champion Tom Watson’s Stanford squad among others—winning six individual collegiate titles by 1965 when he decided to turn professional after graduation instead of trying out for the Walker Cup Team or pursuing a spot on tour through qualifying schools as most did back then due to lack of sponsor exemptions available compared to today’s standards..
