Park City is a city in Summit County, Utah, United States. It lies on the slopes of the Wasatch Mountains and is 32 miles (51 km) east of Salt Lake City. The population was 7,558 at the 2010 census. On average, it receives 250 inches (6 m) of snow each year and has been one of North America’s premier ski destinations since being founded as a silver-mining town in 1869. Park City is home to three major ski resorts: Deer Valley Resort; Park City Mountain Resort; and Canyons Village Ski Resort which together provide more than 9300 acres (3 800 ha) of terrain for skiing/riding activity alone with an additional 200+ trails throughout its adjoining forests that are available for hiking or mountain biking during warmer months.

The area around what would become Park City was used by Native Americans including the Ute people prior to settlement from European immigrants who arrived in search for mineral deposits such as those found near Silver Creek where prospectors discovered ore containing both lead and zinc along with other minerals like copper and gold leading to significant growth within this region beginning even before 1880 when silver mining boomed due to high demand resulting from coinage legislation passed by Congress two years earlier however after World War I production began tapering off eventually forcing many miners out into new professions while simultaneously attracting tourists looking take advantage these newly constructed lodgings found amongst quaint townships filled small shops restaurants bars etc built atop natural springs providing hot sulfuric baths known today collectively “Park Sulfur Hot Springs”.

Today most visitors come here primarily recreational activities although there still some industrial operations particularly involving extraction precious metals salt water brine fracking related projects located outside downtown core itself situated slightly southwestward between Parleys Canyon Weber River just north Jordanelle Reservoir forming part larger metropolitan territory encompassing several nearby cities townships all considered united under same banner often referred affectionately locals ‘Greater Park Area’ includes communities such Heber Kamas Wanship Coalville Francis Henefer Oakley Peoa Smithfield plus handful others down Provo side Orem southwards culminating total estimated combined population over 27000 residents according 2015 US Census Bureau estimates making largest cities county Summit State Utah .
