Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State Buckeyes are the athletic teams of The Ohio State University, located in Columbus, Ohio. The school’s sports teams compete in Division I (Football Bowl Subdivision for college football) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and is a founding member of the Big Ten Conference.

In total, there are 36 varsity sports programs offered at OSU; these include baseball, basketball, cross country running/track & field events, fencing ,football , golf ,gymnastics ice hockey lacrosse rifle rowing soccer softball swimming & diving tennis track & field volleyball water polo and wrestling . All have achieved national or international prominence throughout their history with many alumni going on to become professional athletes. The university also supports intramural competitions between students as well as club sports such as rugby union and Ultimate frisbee .

Football has been an important part of OSU athletics since 1890 when it first fielded a team coached by Alexander S. Lilley who had played for Princeton College prior to becoming head coach at OSU . Since then they have won 8 national championships including 7 under legendary coach Woody Hayes from 1951-1978, most recently winning the 2002 BCS Championship game against Miami Hurricanes in double overtime which was considered one of greatest games ever played . Currently led by head coach Ryan Day they play home games at historic Ohio Stadium nicknamed “the Horseshoe” due its horseshoe shape design which holds over 100 thousand fans each season making it one largest stadiums collegiate football today

Basketball is another major sport program that competes both NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament as well Women’s tournament annually usually having good success with multiple Final Four appearances throughout years men’s program being particularly successful lately under current head coaches Chris Holtman Thad Matta who lead them through numerous conference titles deep runs into tournaments recent years women’s side currently headed up Kevin McGuff has seen similar success past decade so overall any fan can look forward exciting matchups across slate every year regardless gender
