New Jersey

New Jersey is a state in the Northeastern and Middle Atlantic regions of the United States. It is bordered on the north and east by New York, on the southeast and south by Delaware, and on the west by Pennsylvania. The Appalachian Mountains run through its middle. At 8,722 square miles (22,608 km2), it ranks as the 47th-largest state in terms of land area; it is slightly larger than Portugal or Jamaica but smaller than Ireland or South Korea. Its population density was 1,195 people per square mile (463/km²). With over 9 million residents it is ranked 11th in population size among US states; with more densely populated neighboring states like New York to its immediate northeast having over 19 million people living within 100 miles (161 km) from Newark Bay alone.
