Narendra Modi by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 65 Narendra Damodardas Modi (born 17 September 1950) is an Indian politician serving as the 14th and current Prime Minister of India since 2014. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and is the Member of Parliament for Varanasi. Modi is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). As chief minister, he has been credited with economic growth in his state, though this has also been criticised by many. His policies have been described as right-wing populism, Hindu nationalist and conservative.[1] Modi studied political science at University of Delhi before joining RSS in 1971; he later became general secretary in 1998–2002 being responsible for organisation’s activities all over India. In 2002, BJP declared him prime ministerial candidate after performing well during Gujarat government formation campaign where he served as Chief Minister from 2001 to 2014 having won four times consecutively.[2] After winning elections in May 2009he then formed first majority government since 1989; under his leadership BJP stormed back into power by becoming single largest party securing 282 seats out 545 total seats which were required for absolute majority.[3][4] During second term Narendra worked on various social welfare schemes like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan – aiming towards cleanliness across nation along with Make In India initiative targeting foreign investment & job creation within country while attempting to revive stalled economy due to global recession amidst other reforms including GST implementation that helped reduce tax burden significantly leading up inflation rate further down below 5%[5]. During third term agenda focused more on strengthening infrastructure such international airports projects & bullet train initiatives along side introducing world class education system through NEP 2020 helping students get access quality education they deserve without worrying about financial resources available at family level or any kind discrimination faced due lack thereof [6]. On personal front Prime minister participates actively yoga practice regularly follows vegetarian lifestyle abstaining alcoholic beverages altogether shows deep commitment towards fitness health wellbeing overall development human race are unmatched among peers politics today’s age modern era . Aside few controversies surrounding him tenure office Narendra managed make significant impact both domestically internationally establishing himself one most influential leaders contemporary times garnering support followers around globe
