Mississippi is a state located in the Deep South region of the United States. It was admitted to the Union on December 10, 1817 as part of the Mississippi Territory. The capital and largest city is Jackson, with an estimated population of 173,514 people in 2019.

Geography
The Mississippi River forms its western border with Arkansas and Louisiana; it also has borders with Alabama to the east and Tennessee to the north. The Gulf Coast lies along its southern coast line which includes major cities such as Biloxi, Gulfport, Pascagoula and Bay St Louis where beach resorts are popular vacation destinations for tourists from all over North America.
