Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris (born October 20, 1964) is an American politician and attorney who has served as the Junior United States Senator from California since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the 27th Attorney General of California from 2011 to 2017, and District Attorney of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011. She was a candidate for President of the United States in 2020.

Early life and education
Harris was born in Oakland, California on October 20th 1964 to Shyamala Gopalan Harris a Tamil Indian-American mother who specialized in breast cancer research at UC Berkeley’s Cancer Research Laboratory; Donald J. Harris an African Jamaican father who taught economics at Stanford University; her sister Maya Harris also works for government affairs specializing immigration reform issues among other topics working with Hillary Clinton’s campaign team during 2016 election cycle. Growing up Kamala attended Howard University where she majored in Political Science & Economics while interning at Alameda County district attorney office before graduating cum laude 1986 then later earning her Juris Doctorate Degree 1989 from Hastings College Law School making both parents very proud that their daughter had achieved so much academically!

Political career

In 2003 after leaving private practice – she ran successfully for District Attorney (DA)of San Francisco becoming first woman elected DA city& county history . As DA she put emphasis on prosecution sexual assault/domestic violence cases creating Family Violence Prevention Unit & backed legislation requiring DNA testing all felony suspects 2006 when Prop 69 passed by large margin voters thus helping solve many cold cases using genetic evidence collected through database maintained by Department Justice 2009 saw passage another ballot measure sponsored Kamalas office called “Back On Track” allowing nonviolent ex-offenders opportunity receive job training avoid reincarceration 2010 became state’s highest ranking law enforcement official winning primary race November general election despite Republican opponent spending $9 million against her ultimately securing 61% vote total During 8 years tenure AG earned reputation being tough crime fighter but one open criminal justice reform such reversing death penalty sentences juveniles trying help inmates return society Successful record as top prosecutor led way successful political campaigns higher offices including current term US Senate seat which won easily 2018 defeating incumbent Jeff Denham gaining over 9 million votes statewide With strong track record progressive policies it unsurprising why some have compared Kamalas presidency potential future Obama even Biden though still early determine if will reach same heights those already mentioned politicians Nevertheless whatever happens next few decades guaranteed make impact politics especially considering fact young age only mid 50s currently means could potentially become longest serving female president ever America History books yet written what know sure now hardworking ambitious individual set out achieve great things no matter odds stacked against them whether succeeds remains seen time will tell Until then can rest assured knowing least did best part journey itself
