Kamala Harris by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 83 Kamala Harris (born October 20, 1964) is an American politician and attorney who has served as the Junior United States Senator from California since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the 27th Attorney General of California from 2011 to 2017, and District Attorney of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011. She was a candidate for President of the United States in 2020. Early life and education Harris was born in Oakland, California on October 20th 1964 to Shyamala Gopalan Harris a Tamil Indian-American mother who specialized in breast cancer research at UC Berkeley’s Cancer Research Laboratory; Donald J. Harris an African Jamaican father who taught economics at Stanford University; her sister Maya Harris also works for government affairs specializing immigration reform issues among other topics working with Hillary Clinton’s campaign team during 2016 election cycle. Growing up Kamala attended Howard University where she majored in Political Science & Economics while interning at Alameda County district attorney office before graduating cum laude 1986 then later earning her Juris Doctorate Degree 1989 from Hastings College Law School making both parents very proud that their daughter had achieved so much academically!
