Grammy Awards

The Grammy Awards, or simply The Grammys, is an annual award ceremony held by the Recording Academy to recognize excellence in the music industry and other achievements. It was established in 1958 as a way of recognizing musical talent from across all genres of popular music. As one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies around the world, it has become a platform for artists to showcase their work on an international stage and gain recognition from peers and fans alike.

Each year since 1959, members of The Recording Academy have voted to choose nominees for each category based upon quality criteria set forth by its board; winners are then chosen through majority vote (in some cases) or voting among selected experts within that field. During any given show, various awards are presented including Albums Of The Year (both Pop & Classical), Recordings Of The Year (both Pop & Classical), Song Of The Year/Best New Artist/Producer Of The Year etc., with many subcategories such as Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals/Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists etc.. Winners receive gold-plated gramophones known colloquially as “Grammy” trophies which also serve as mementoes commemorating their achievement(s).

Since 1961 when it first aired nationally on television until 2021 when CBS took over full broadcast rights following NBC’s departure after 53 years – ABC previously had broadcast rights between 1976–1981 – numerous memorable performances have graced audiences spanning multiple generations. Such iconic moments include Michael Jackson’s Thriller performance at 1984’s 26th Annual Event where he debuted his signature moonwalk dance move later becoming synonymous with him; Adele’s tribute song dedicated to Whitney Houston during 2012’s 54th edition et al While traditional categories remain largely unchanged throughout time there too exist “specialty genre” ones like Americana Music Award honoring folk country blues bluegrass jazz gospel soul funk rap reggae Latin etc..

In addition to celebrating those who create great music every year this event serves another purpose: Charity!
