The music world eagerly awaits the announcement of the 2024 Grammy Awards nominations, set to be unveiled this Friday.

This significant event will be broadcast via a live video stream on the official Grammy website and the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel, starting at 8 a.m. Pacific Time and 11 a.m. Eastern Time.

A group of renowned artists, including “Weird Al” Yankovic, Jimmy Jam, Jon Bon Jovi, Kim Petras, Samara Joy, and Muni Long, are scheduled to reveal the nominees.

The eligibility period for this year’s nominations spans from October 1, 2022, to September 15, 2023. Consequently, recent works by artists like the Rolling Stones, Bad Bunny, and Drake are not eligible for album nominations. However, Drake’s collaboration with 21 Savage on “Her Loss,” released in 2022, remains a contender. In a notable exclusion, Michelle Williams’ audiobook narration of Britney Spears’ memoir, “The Woman in Me,” does not qualify in the best audio book, narration, and storytelling recording category for this cycle.

The 2024 Grammy Awards are introducing several changes. One significant adjustment, which sparked widespread online discussion, is the stipulation that “Only human creators” are eligible for the music industry’s most prestigious accolade. This rule aims to address the growing role of artificial intelligence in music production.

Harvey Mason jr., the CEO and President of the Recording Academy, clarified to The Big Big News: “Music involving AI elements is certainly eligible for Grammy nomination and consideration. However, the AI component itself will not receive a Grammy or a nomination.”

Additionally, the ceremony will introduce three new categories: best pop dance recording, best African music performance, and best alternative jazz album. Two existing categories, producer of the year, non-classical, and songwriter of the year, non-classical, are now part of the general field. This shift allows all Grammy voters to partake in the selection process. Previously, the general field comprised only the “Big Four” awards: best new artist, album of the year, record of the year, and song of the year.

The 2024 Grammy Awards are scheduled to be broadcast live on CBS and Paramount+ on February 4, from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
