Anticipation mounts as the 2024 Grammy Award nominations are set to be unveiled this Friday.

The announcement will be broadcast live via a video stream on both the official Grammy website and the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel, scheduled for 8 a.m. Pacific Time and 11 a.m. Eastern Time.

An array of celebrities, including “Weird Al” Yankovic, Jimmy Jam, Jon Bon Jovi, Kim Petras, Samara Joy, and Muni Long, will reveal the nominees.

Eligibility for this year’s nominations is restricted to recordings released from October 1, 2022, to September 15, 2023. This means recent works by the Rolling Stones, Bad Bunny, and Drake are excluded, though Drake’s 2022 collaboration with 21 Savage, “Her Loss,” is in contention. Despite fan hopes, Michelle Williams’ rendition of Britney Spears’ memoir “The Woman in Me” won’t be considered in the best audio book, narration, and storytelling recording category for this cycle.

Significant changes are in store for the 2024 awards. One particular change, which has sparked considerable online discussion, is that only human artists are eligible to win the industry’s most prestigious accolade. This move addresses the growing use of artificial intelligence in music creation.

Harvey Mason jr., CEO and President of the Recording Academy, clarified in an interview with The Big Big News, “While AI or AI-influenced music is eligible for entry and Grammy consideration, awards and nominations will not be extended to the AI components.”

Moreover, three new categories have been introduced: best pop dance recording, best African music performance, and best alternative jazz album. Additionally, two existing categories, producer of the year, non-classical, and songwriter of the year, non-classical, have been shifted to the general field. This allows all Grammy voters to partake in the selection process. Previously, the general field comprised only the ‘Big Four’: best new artist, album, record, and song of the year.

The 2024 Grammy Awards ceremony is set to be broadcast live on February 4 on CBS and Paramount+, emanating from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
