Delaware by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 70 Delaware is a state located in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern regions of the United States. It is bordered to the south and west by Maryland, to the northeast by New Jersey, and to the north by Pennsylvania. The state takes its name from Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr who was appointed governor of Virginia in 1610. Delaware occupies an area of 2,491 square miles (6456 km2) making it the second smallest US State behind Rhode Island. As of 2019, Delaware has a population estimated at 975 764 people with Wilmington being its most populous city containing 72 852 inhabitants as per census estimates for 2020. History: The first European settlement in what would become present day Delaware occurred when Dutch traders established colonies along both banks of Zuyd Rivier (now known as South River), which they named ‘Zwaanendael’ or “Valley Of Swans” near Lewes on June 3rd 1631 . This colony however proved short lived after local Native Americans destroyed it during a massacre two years later; this event marked one among many conflicts between Europeans settlers and native populations throughout early colonial America’s history.. In 1704 , Queen Anne granted Pennsylvanian Quakers William Penn chartering them land including present day Southern parts now forming modern day borders with neighbouring states ; shortly thereafter he renamed his new lands ‘’the Lower Counties On The Deleware’’ referring them after Lord Delawarr . By 1776 these counties had seceded from Pennsylvania becoming their own entity under American rule renaming themselves simply “Delaware”. During america’s revolutionary war period , though officially declaring itself neutral towards either side , several small skirmishes were fought within Delaware territory mostly notably at Coochs Bridge where militia commanded by General Washington defeated British forces thus preventing Redcoats further incursion into nearby Chester county . After achieving full independence alongside other original thirteen colonies throught signing Declaration Of Independence on July 4th 1776 ; Delaware became first nation join union ratifying constitution just few months later December 7th same year .. From then till present days Economy Of delaware remained centered around agriculture industry producing large amounts commodities such corn soybeans wheat hay fruits vegetables also livestock primarily poultry but dairy products too growing slowly over time adding manufacturing services banking insurance sectors providing employment opportunities citizens while generating wealth benefit whole country … As we today celebrate 243 rd anniversary birth americas oldest yet smallest federative unit berift rich historical culture tradition let us all honor brave men women preserving freedom democracy very core our nations founding principles …..
