Alabama state government by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 58 The Alabama state government is the governmental structure of the U.S. state of Alabama as established by its constitution and laws, operating in accord with the principles of federalism. The executive branch consists of a governor elected for four-year terms (a limit imposed in 1972). The legislative branch comprises both houses of a bicameral legislature; members are elected to four-year terms at two-year intervals during odd years. In addition, there are several independent agencies that possess certain powers and authority within their areas defined by law or executive order such as regulatory boards, commissions and departments related to health care, education etc.. Organizationally, it is composed of three distinct branches: executive, judicial and legislative which operate independently from each other yet coordinate closely on many issues affecting public policy decisions within the framework prescribed by constitutional law under US Federalism system . Executive Branch: Headed by Governor Kay Ivey who serves 4 year term since January 2017 ,the cabinet includes Lt Governor Will Ainsworth appointed Secretary Of State John Merrill , Attorney General Steve Marshall along with numerous department heads responsible for administration & implementation various services across entire state .Governor appoints directors & commissioners also known as “subject matter experts”who serve at her discretion without approval from Legislature . Legislative Branch : Composed Of Senate & House Representatives collectively forming Bicameral Legislature ;Senate having 35 members while house consisting 105 representatives serving 2 year terms respectively . Based upon ideology they be either Republican Or Democrat majority party decides committee chairmanships thereby determining agenda priorities thus setting up tone For future legislation’s affecting general population Judicial Branch : Highest court being Supreme Court consist 7 justices including Chief Justice Tom Parker selected through gubernatorial appointment but requiring confirmation By senate before taking office all lower courts falls under jurisdiction supreme court thereby hearing appeals originating these courts ultimately deciding legal matters pertaining To civil/criminal cases involving citizens or entities residing within respective districts or counties throughout alabama boundaries
