With the Paris Olympics just a year away, organizers have unveiled a sleek and shiny torch designed with environmental consciousness in mind. The torch, created by French designer Mathieu Lehanneur, is a silver-colored cylinder made from recycled steel, elegantly tapered at both ends. Taking a sustainable approach, only 2,000 torches will be produced, significantly fewer than previous editions of the Olympics, to conserve resources.

Weighing 1.5 kilograms and standing at 70 centimeters tall, the torch will carry the Olympic flame around France and make its way to the opening ceremony on July 26, 2024. A unique feature of these games is that the same torch design will be used for both the Olympics and Paralympic Games.

The journey of the Olympic flame will begin in Ancient Olympia, Greece, and be transported by boat to Marseille in the south of France. From there, the torch relay will commence on May 8, involving 10,000 torchbearers who will take turns carrying it until the final bearer lights the cauldron at the opening ceremony.
