Police investigating the Gilgo Beach killings have searched a Long Island storage facility

Authorities investigating the unsolved Gilgo Beach murders recently conducted a search at a storage facility in Amityville, a community in Long Island. Suffolk County police confirmed on Monday that detectives, armed with a search warrant, had explored Omega Self Storage on Sunrise Highway as part of the ongoing investigation. This development follows the recent arrest of architect Rex Heuermann, who was charged with murder in connection to three of the 11 victims whose remains were discovered along a remote beach highway.

Heuermann, who has resided near the area where the remains were found, was initially identified as a suspect in March 2022. Detectives established a link between him and a pickup truck that a witness had observed during one of the victims’ disappearances in 2010.

Although Heuermann’s attorney, Michael Brown, has stated that his client denies any involvement in the crimes, authorities are continuing their efforts to gather evidence. The nature of the connection between the Amityville storage facility and the investigation remains unclear.

As of Monday, a police vehicle was still stationed at the storage facility, cordoned off by yellow tape, following the search conducted by detectives on Sunday. Managers of the facility were unavailable for comment at the time.
