Jimmy Kimmel Oscars Host

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has confirmed that Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the Academy Awards once again, marking his fourth time and second consecutive year in this role. The announcement was made on Wednesday.

ABC is entrusting its late-night star with the prestigious hosting duties following his successful stewardship of the 2023 Oscars, which attracted 18.7 million viewers, the highest since the 2020 ceremony before the COVID-19 pandemic. Kimmel’s previous hosting in the aftermath of the 2022 incident involving Will Smith and Chris Rock contributed to a more measured and stabilizing Oscars event amidst recent challenges faced by the Academy.

Kimmel’s history with the Oscars includes hosting in 2017 and 2018 as well.

Kimmel humorously remarked, “I always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times,” in a recent statement.

While Kimmel is ascending the ranks of frequent Oscar hosts, he still remains far behind the record-holder Bob Hope, who hosted the event 19 times, either alone or with co-hosts. Another notable host, Billy Crystal, presided over the ceremony nine times between 1990 and 2012.

The Oscars’ production team for this year includes Raj Kapoor as executive producer and showrunner, Katy Mullan as an executive producer, and Hamish Hamilton as the director. Joining them is Molly McNearney, Kimmel’s wife and executive producer of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” who will serve as an executive producer of the Oscars for the second year in a row.

Kapoor and Mullan praised Kimmel in a statement, saying, “Jimmy has cemented himself as one of the all-time great Oscars hosts with his perfect blend of humanity and humor, and Molly is one of the best live TV producers around.”

The 96th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to be broadcast live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 10.

Surprised to see Kimmel back, his last stint was decent but not groundbreaking… Hope he ups the ante this time. Oscars need a lift after the past few years.
