Minnesota Drug Task Force Shooting

In an incident near the city of Princeton, Minnesota, five officers from the drug task force sustained gunshot wounds while executing a search warrant, as reported by authorities. Following a protracted standoff, the suspect was taken into custody.

According to a statement released by Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck, the officers engaged in a gunfire exchange with the suspect when they confronted him. Subsequently, the wounded suspect was apprehended and received medical treatment, with the exact nature and severity of his injuries yet to be disclosed.

Fortunately, the injuries sustained by the officers were deemed non-life-threatening, as stated by the sheriff. Three of them were transported to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, a Minneapolis suburb, while the remaining two were taken to a hospital in St. Cloud.

The incident unfolded in Glendorado Township on Thursday morning, situated a few miles west of Princeton, approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers) northwest of Minneapolis.

These officers were members of the Sherburne County Drug Task Force, with three hailing from the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, one from the Princeton Police Department, and one from the Elk River Police Department, as detailed in the news release. Benton County sheriff’s deputies were present during the event but emerged unscathed, Sheriff Heck confirmed.

Video footage from KMSP-TV showcased a significant law enforcement presence at the scene, with officers donning tactical gear. Additionally, video footage from KARE-TV depicted law enforcement converging on a rural area surrounded by farmland and wooded homes. An armored vehicle was observed navigating the periphery of one of the fields.

The Minnesota state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been called upon to conduct an investigation, which is customary in instances involving shootings related to law enforcement officers.
