Recently purchasing a house for himself and his fiancée, Wallin took pride in his new role as a homeowner, diligently maintaining his lawn with a sense of accomplishment.

Chaplain Jordan Helming, who served alongside Wallin in Iraq, spoke of the fallen officer’s dedication as a soldier and his optimistic outlook during challenging times. Wallin’s parents were honored with two Fargo police awards and the Minnesota Distinguished Service Medal in recognition of their son’s service and sacrifice.

People from various law enforcement agencies and different states came together to attend Wallin’s funeral, showing their support and solidarity during this difficult time. The tragic incident involved a Syrian national named Mohamad Barakat, who had come to the U.S. on an asylum request in 2012 and later became a citizen. Evidence suggests that Barakat’s motive was rooted in hatred, but it was not targeted at any specific group, including the police. Instead, it appears that the ambush was a diversion from a more significant and sinister plot involving crowds at events like the Downtown Fargo Street Fair and the Red River Valley Fair.
