Yemen government

The government of Yemen is the political leadership of the Republic of Yemen, a country located in Western Asia on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. It is an Islamic republic governed by a president and bicameral legislature consisting of an upper house known as Shura Council and lower house called House Of Representatives. The current President is Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi who has been in office since 2012. He was elected after Ali Abdullah Saleh stepped down from his post amid unrest caused by Arab Spring protests which began in 2011.

Yemen’s constitution defines it as a democratic, unified state founded upon republican principles with Islam being its official religion; Sharia law serves as its basic source for legislation but other sources such as international conventions are recognized too when making laws related to human rights or civil liberties. Its executive branch consists primarily of Prime Minister-led Cabinet while judicial authority rests within Supreme Court’s hands (highest court).

Yemens parliament includes both directly elected representatives & those appointed by president: House Of Representatives chosen through direct elections every 4 years while Shura Council members picked up at presidential discretion/consultation with various officials/groups inside society – these two bodies work together to pass new laws & regulations according to their respective powers granted under Constitution itself This system allows checks&balances between branches thus protecting citizens’ rights against abuse from any single entity that may arise during times where power concentrated into few people’s hands

In terms domestic politics, Yemen operates multi-party democracy albeit one relatively unstable due frequent internal conflicts over past decades which have weakened national unity & stability leading many parts nation vulnerable external interference either politically religious extremism militarily etcetera . Some key issues include poverty scarcity resources lack proper infrastructure development education access healthcare provision employment opportunities crime prevention etc., all compounded ongoing security threats posed regionally nationally . These challenges might seem daunting yet there also some positive developments taking place like recent progress oil exploration projects helping diversify economy away just agriculture based activities modernization telecommunications services improving rural areas connectivity introduction renewable energy schemes amongst others Thus far though much still needs done order ensure long term sustainability prosperity across entire population because despite having democratically elected leaders ultimate success lies true commitment policy implementation measures taken betterment life general populace
