Wisconsin is a state located in the north-central United States, bordered by Michigan to the northeast, Minnesota and Iowa to the west, Illinois to the south, and Lake Superior and Upper Michigan to the northwest. With an estimated population of 5.8 million in 2020, Wisconsin is one of America’s most populous states. Its capital city is Madison while its largest city is Milwaukee.

The first Europeans known to have explored what would become Wisconsin were French explorers Jean Nicolet who arrived at Green Bay in 1634 as well as Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet who laid claim for France when they followed Fox River from Green Bay up until it reached Mississippi River in 1673. The area was later ceded to Britain after their victory over France during Seven Years’ War with Great Lakes region becoming part of British Empire’s Canada colony before eventually being put under control of American government following Treaty Of Paris that ended Revolutionary War 1783 . In 1848 Congress created Wisconsin Territory which led way for establishment State Of Wisconsin two years later on May 29th 1850 making it 30th US state overall .
