Volodymyr Zelenskyy by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 78 Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy (Ukrainian: Володимир Олександрович Зеленський; born 25 January 1978) is a Ukrainian politician, screenwriter and actor who has been the 6th President of Ukraine since 2019. He is also the founder of Kvartal 95 studio, which produced some hit television series in Ukraine such as “Servant of the People” where he played himself – a school teacher who unexpectedly becomes president. In addition to his success with film and television projects, Zelenskyy was elected mayor of Kryvyi Rih in 2015 before becoming an independent candidate for President ahead of 2019’s snap election. In April 2019, after defeating incumbent Petro Poroshenko by 73% to 24%, Volodymyr Zelenskyy assumed office as Ukraine’s sixth post-independence president on 20 May 2019 at Kyiv’s Saint Sophia Cathedral – becoming one of Europe’s youngest heads-of-state at 41 years old. As President Zelenskyy brought into effect several new reforms including anti-corruption initiatives that seek to improve public trust in government officials. Additionally he strengthened ties between countries within Eastern Europe while also actively pursuing peace negotiations regarding Russia occupied territories in eastern Ukraine . His presidency saw increased economic growth due to financial assistance from both International Monetary Fund loans as well as from neighboring European Union countries . During 2020 it became known that then U.S President Donald Trump had sought help from Mr.Zelesnkiyi for political gain during his reelection campaign , sparking multiple international investigations resulting ultimately in an impeachment trial against Trump yet no formal charges were ever made against either leaders . Despite this scandal media polls showed positive ratings remaining steady throughout most of 2020 leading up until 2021 when rating dropped slightly due to increasing COVID 19 cases throughout country but quickly recovered shortly afterwards Now nearing end off second year serving office many believe Mr Zelsnskys legacy will be remembered not only domestically but internationally through having helped maintain relative calm amidst domestic unrest while strengthening foreign relations between East & West alike
