United Arab Emirates government by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 53 The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven emirates located in the Middle East. The country was founded on 2 December 1971, and its government functions as an absolute monarchy under the Al Nahyan family, with Abu Dhabi serving as the capital city. Government Structure The UAE has a federal system of government that provides for strong central control over most matters while permitting local autonomy within each individual Emirate. At the national level, executive power is vested in a president who serves both head-of-state and prime minister roles; he appoints cabinet ministers from members appointed by each Emirate’s ruler or crown prince to form his Council of Ministers which implements policy decisions taken by him alongside other state councils including Supreme Federal Court, National Security Council and Financial & Economic Affairs Committee chaired himself. Legislative authority resides in an elected 40 member Federal National Council (FNC). It holds legislative powers but must approve all laws passed by Presidential decrees voted into law without debate or amendment before being enacted into law .In addition , it can submit draft bills to Cabinet for review and submission to President along with questioning ministers about their performance in office . Political System While no political parties exist at present , various unofficial lobby groups have arisen advocating different sets of interests such as women’s rights , freedom of expression etc .Each year one third new members are selected through elections based on population size held among citizens aged 21 years old every four years throughout country .. Free universal suffrage exists only since 2006 when first FNC election took place officially recognising people’s right vote albeit limited access due certain regulations like voter registration requirements prior voting day itself restricting participation rate overall compared neighbouring countries especially Qatar where over 70% turnout had been achieved 2012 parliamentary poll there respectively despite fact female voters were not allowed do same until 2015 when they finally gained equal status men previously enjoyed exclusively nationwide across region generally speaking terms gender equality policies adopted recent times.. Foreign Relations/International Cooperation The UAE maintains close diplomatic ties with many nations around world particularly those nearby Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Organisation Islamic Conference (OIC) states though also cooperate economically part Asian continent too signing free trade agreements China Singapore establishing embassies India Pakistan Japan amongst others order ensure regional stability peacekeeping efforts undertaken prevent further terrorism occurring land sea air borders thus far proved successful minimising terrorist attacks occurred past few decades except minor incidents reported recently regarding Houthi rebels Yemen related activities prior civil war beginning 2011 onwards period ongoing conflict continues cause much destruction displacement thousands civilians fleeing home seek refuge abroad either temporary permanent basis depending situation refugees find themselves facing time comes return homeland eventually hopefully once security restored conditions allow safe travel back again…
