Taliban

The Taliban is a group of Islamic fundamentalist militants, most predominantly based in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The group was formed by Pashtun tribesmen in 1994 with the aim of establishing an Islamic state throughout Afghanistan under strict sharia law. Led by Mullah Mohammed Omar, they rose to power during the Afghan Civil War (1996–2001) following their military victory over the forces loyal to President Burhanuddin Rabbani’s government.

In 1996, it declared a “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” but never received widespread recognition from other countries or governments due to its human rights abuses and violations against women’s rights. Despite international pressure for them to step down, they held control until 2001 when US-led coalition forces invaded after the September 11 attacks on New York City and Washington D.C., ultimately forcing them out of power in December 2001.

Since then, Taliban forces have been engaged in an insurgency against the US-backed Afghan government as well as nearby NATO nations that are part of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). The organization continues using guerrilla tactics such as suicide bombings and roadside/vehicle borne improvised explosive devices targeting both civilians and military personnel within many parts of South Asia including Pakistan & India.. In addition to OEF operations carried out worldwide; there has also been long series peace negotiations between representatives from various factions involved with this conflict which includes discussions about potential ceasefire agreements sanctioned by regional powers like China & Russia who could potentially serve mediator roles . As off 2021 ,the war still carries on inside different parts regions across south east Asian region leading into high casualties among both civilian populace while simultaneously leaving little headway towards any possible resolution regarding future stability .
