Takeshi Kitano (北野 武, born January 18, 1947) is a Japanese comedian, television presenter, actor, filmmaker and author. He has appeared in over 50 films since his debut in 1979 as an actor. His directorial career began with 1989’s Violent Cop and he has gone on to direct several critically acclaimed feature-length films such as Sonatine (1993), Hana-bi (1997) and Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman (2003). In addition to directing film projects for other companies or himself under the name Beat Takeshi or just “Takeshi,” he also appears regularly in various TV shows including variety programs like Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!!

Kitano first gained international fame when his 1997 film Hana-bi won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival that year. He followed it up two years later with Kikujiro which was selected for competition at Cannes 2000. Since then his work has been screened worldwide; some of his works have featured prominently at major festivals such as Berlinale 2003 where Dolls competed for a Golden Bear award; Cannes 2006 where Glory To The Filmmaker! premiered out of competition; Locarno 2008 which hosted Takeshis’, Kitano’s experimental self portrait project etc., are notable examples from recent times . Through these appearances he gradually built up an international reputation among cinephiles throughout Europe and Asia though remains relatively unknown outside those areas despite having made numerous English language productions including Brother(2000); Outrage Beyond(2012); Beyond Outrage(2014).

In Japan besides continuing to make movies through Office Kitano ,he still appears frequently on television both hosting quiz programmes—as famously seen on New Year’s Eve show Quiz $ Millionaire —and performing comedy sketches following themes close to heart—such as manzai style routines based around modern day relationships between men & women or parents & children often featuring characters voiced by him alone which bring out unique takes on everyday topics broadcasted across multiple channels every week ranging from commercial stations TBS/TV Tokyo/Nippon TV all way down cable network WOWOW most notably appearing annually during Nōgaku drama “Kabuki Takoyaki” specials produced jointly by NHK E Tele /NHK BS Premium alongside regular cast members Tamori / Ebizo Ichikawa XI . These activities have helped him maintain strong public presence even after 30+years being active media personality within domestic entertainment industry .

As far body of work goes Kitsuno continues expanding beyond traditional boundaries be it direction wise exploring new grounds experimentation enabled largely due to prolific output generated thanks support received production houses alike allowing full freedom creativity granted hereof managing attain level appreciation highly respected amongst peers globally thus ensuring place secure furthering legacy will live long future generations come whether its cinema stage screen itself…
