Sudan by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 72 Sudan (Arabic: السودان; officially the Republic of Sudan) is a country in North Africa. It borders Egypt to the north, Libya to the northwest, Chad and Central African Republic to the west, South Sudan and Ethiopia to the south, Eritrea and Red Sea coastlines on its east side. At around 2 million square kilometers (770 thousand miles), it is one of Africa’s largest countries by area. Its capital city is Khartoum which lies at the confluence of two rivers – The Blue Nile & White Nile Rivers. The population of over 43 million people makes it one of Africa’s most populous nations as well as being home to many different cultures and ethnic groups such as Arab-Berbers, Fur people, Masalit people among others all speaking their own languages including Arabic which serves as a lingua franca between them .It also has religious diversity with Muslims making up 70% followed by Christians who are mostly animists or adherents traditional beliefs but still make up about 15% minority group in total together with other denominations like Hindus ,Jews etc . This mix results from centuries long interaction between these various religions brought mainly due trade routes that connected this region since ancient times . Economically , modern day Sudan relies heavily on oil production industry coupled with agricultural sector particularly livestock farming along with gold mining activities near Darfur region plus natural gas exploitation too adding those into its national budget revenues list annually Nevertheless poverty remains widespread despite government efforts undertaken during past years yet recent civil war has exacerbated situation even more leaving numerous refugees internally displaced within nation’s territory itself while some sought refuge abroad .. Politically , after gaining independence from Britain back 1959 until recently president Bashir led National Congress Party had been ruling state for 30+ years till 2019 when military stepped into power following months long street demonstrations demanding his resignation ultimately leading formation transitional cabinet run jointly army generals civilian politicians tasked oversee democratic elections 2021 thus culminating decade long journey towards full democracy hopefully ending ongoing political crisis.. In terms culture art music have deep roots sudanese society perhaps best represented traditional genres known Baka dance performed sunsets signify end another successful harvest season held each summer usually accompanied drumming singing celebration joy life so clearly visible throughout land …
