South Korea Government is the central government of South Korea, a democratic, unitary republic located in East Asia. The current president is Moon Jae-in and the prime minister is Chung Sye-kyun.

History
The Korean nation has had various forms of governments since prehistoric times. During its long history it was ruled by both monarchs (the Joseon Dynasty) and military dictatorships (such as Park Chung Hee’s regime). After World War II ended in 1945, Korea was liberated from Japanese colonial rule with support from Allied forces including the United States who occupied southern half while Soviet forces took control over northern part of peninsula until 1948 when two separate states were formed: Republic of Korea in south and Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea in north. After three years civil war broke out between them that lasted until 1953 resulting in victory for South which established itself as an independent state on August 15th 1948 after adoption new constitution establishing first ever presidential system democracy on May 31st 1949 replacing parliamentary one adopted year earlier by interim government led by Rhee Syngman who served President up till 1960 when he resigned due to student riots against his authoritarian policies leading to Second Republic period characterized by strong opposition movements demanding democratization reforms during following decades throughout 70s 80s before finally achieving so with 1988 Constitution guaranteeing basic human rights freedoms such opening way for Third Fourth Republic era marked much greater political freedom stability than previous ones respectively under Kim Young Sam then Kim Dae Jung presidencies beginning mid 90s culminating into Sunshine Policy declared 2000 aimed at reconciliation peace process between North South Koreas through economic exchanges tourism initiatives etc…

Government Structure In accordance with 1988 Constitution there are five branches federalism namely executive legislative judicial review audit service all headed directly or indirectly elected officials thus ensuring separation powers checks balances among each while providing people direct participation ruling themselves via elections representation respective organs according representatives’ power number seats proportional votes they receive general election held every four years head Executive Branch being democratically chosen President Prime Minister appointed him/her usually leader majority party National Assembly Legislative Branch consisting 300 members elected single multi member districts serve terms four years Judiciary Supreme Court High Courts District Circuit Courts specialized courts staffed judges same term length Audit Service responsible auditing books finances public institutions services ensure transparency accountability Administrative Service performs administrative coordination governance implementing laws regulations executing orders overseeing local affairs Local Autonomy Law passed 1991 transferred certain responsibilities authorities lower levels local autonomy entities provinces metropolitan cities counties municipalities towns villages thereby decentralizing decision making processes budgeting policy implementation better reflect regional differences opinions needs populace large whole further increasing democratic nature governmental structures operations today Overall regardless often turbulent complex past present day South Korean government continues strive towards maintaining balance order allowing citizens exercise their hard fought right self determination pursuing progressive policies enrich quality life entire population country beyond
