Shootings are the use of firearms to cause physical harm or death. Shootings take place in a variety of contexts and have been associated with multiple types of crime, including mass shootings, gang violence, domestic abuse and suicide.

History
The earliest known shooting took place in 1605 when Guy Fawkes attempted to assassinate James I as part of the Gunpowder Plot. Since then there have been numerous high-profile shootings around the world involving civilian deaths such as those related to terrorist attacks like 9/11 or school massacres like Columbine High School in 1999. In recent years, gun control has become an increasingly important political issue due to frequent mass shootings across America beginning with Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting on December 14th 2012 which sparked nationwide debate over gun laws .

Types
