Sexual assault by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 66 Sexual assault is a term used to describe any type of unwanted sexual contact or activity. It can include rape, attempted rape, child molestation, and other forms of sexual violence. Sexual assault encompasses a wide range of behaviors including but not limited to groping, touching in an inappropriate manner without consent and verbal harassment such as making comments about someone’s body or clothing choices. In some cases it may also involve non-contact acts such as voyeurism (the act of watching another person undress), exhibitionism (exposing oneself in public) or forcing someone to view pornography without their permission. In the United States there are laws prohibiting all forms of sexual misconduct which vary from state to state; however most criminal statutes define three levels: first degree sexual assault involving penetration with extreme force/violence; second degree involving coerced penetration; third degree involving any form of nonconsensual touching that does not fall under first two categories. Rape is considered one form within the broader category for all types of forced sex crimes. Victims often experience physical trauma along with psychological effects like depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder which can lead to long-term issues if left untreated. Survivors may feel shame, guilt and fear especially when they are unable to talk openly about what happened due them feeling embarrassed or ashamed by society’s attitudes toward victims who have experienced this kind abuse . Research has shown that survivors benefit greatly when given emotional support through counseling services provided by mental health professionals trained in how best help individuals recover from traumatic experiences related to sexual violence.. Although we live in world where assaults continue occur at alarming rates , it important remember you never alone – many organizations provide assistance those affected seek justice bring perpetrators face consequences their actions .
