Richard Blumenthal (born February 13, 1946) is an American attorney and politician who has served as a United States Senator from Connecticut since 2011. He previously served as the state’s Attorney General for twenty years, from 1991 to 2011. As Attorney General of Connecticut, he was one of the most active in pursuing consumer protection cases against large corporations such as Enron and WorldCom; his efforts were credited with recovering millions of dollars on behalf of consumers during his tenure.

Blumenthal attended Harvard Law School upon graduation from Harvard College in 1967, whereupon he went on to serve six months in Vietnam with the U.S Marine Corps Reserve before returning home to pursue legal practice first at New York City firm Cummings & Lockwood then later joining a prominent Hartford-based law firm Wiggin & Dana in 1975 where he became partner by 1980. In 1982 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress but won election two years later becoming State Representative until 1990 when after running unopposed that year became Connecticuts’ 21st Attorney General – holding this office for 20 consecutive years until 2010 when announced candidacy for Senate seat vacated by Christopher Dodd whom had retired citing health reasons earlier that year – winning 60% vote over Republican Linda McMahon whilst also receiving majority votes across all counties within the state despite her high spending campaign which outspent Blumenthals 5:1 ratio respectively according to public records released following polls closing November 2nd 2010 marking him highest profile candidate ever elected into US senate having held position longest serving AG prior while simultaneously being only fourth Democrat senator hailing form CT since 1875 foreshadowing new era political landscape ahead under newly inaugurated Obama administration come January 20th 2011 onwards..

During time office Blumenthal continued pursuit corporate malfeasance litigating companies responsible fraudulent accounting practices amongst other forms economic crime resulting recovery hundreds millions dollars victims affected both nationally internationally including landmark case 2002 against music industry five major record labels accused price fixing ultimately leading $50 million settlement nationwide class action lawsuit providing refunds customers amounting total $67 awarded per household equaling roughly 4 CDs purchased between 1995 2000 timeframe… Furthermore overseeing numerous environmental initiatives throughout duration service raising awareness issues pertaining climate change water pollution renewable energy resources reducing carbon dioxide emissions way incentivizing green living schools communities alike…
