Rail accidents are incidents involving trains, railway infrastructure or rolling stock. The causes of these accidents include human errors, mechanical failures and natural disasters.

History

The history of rail accidents dates back to the early 19th century when steam locomotives were first introduced in England. Since then many rail accident have occurred due to a variety of factors including poor track maintenance and bad weather conditions such as heavy rain or snowfall leading to slippery tracks which can cause derailment. Other common causes include faulty brakes, signal failure, equipment malfunctioning and driver fatigue among others . However with improvements in technology over time most modern countries now employ safety measures that reduce the risk of train crashes significantly from what it used to be before .
