In an incident on Thursday morning, a commuter train in Chicago collided with rail equipment, resulting in injuries to a minimum of 19 individuals, with three of them sustaining severe injuries, according to an official statement.

The Chicago Fire Department reported that a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) train encountered a collision with a piece of rail equipment positioned on the tracks shortly before 11 a.m. in the North Side of the city.

Larry Langford, a spokesperson for the fire department, informed the Chicago Sun-Times that three individuals sustained severe injuries, while the remaining 16 had injuries that were not considered life-threatening. He noted that the number of injured individuals might increase as more information becomes available.

The scene of the train collision near the Howard CTA station prompted the dispatch of at least 15 ambulances to provide assistance.

As a result of the incident, CTA’s Red, Purple, and Yellow lines temporarily ceased train services, as announced on the commuter service’s official website.
