Pyongyang

Pyongyang is the capital and largest city of North Korea. It is located on the Taedong River about 109 kilometers (68 mi) upstream from its mouth on the Yellow Sea. Pyongyang was first established as a walled city in 1179 by King Tangun, who founded both Goguryeo and Joseon dynasties in North Korea. Since then it has been an important cultural center for centuries, serving as the political capital of various Korean kingdoms throughout history.

Today Pyongyang serves as one of two special cities that make up South Pyongan Province; with Rason being the other special city within this province’s jurisdiction. The population of Pyongyang is estimated to be over 3 million people making it one of East Asia’s most populous cities despite its relative isolation from much international trade or travel due to politics and economics sanctions placed upon North Korea by many countries worldwide since 1945 when Japan ended their occupation following World War II .
The architecture reflects traditional Korean styles combined with Soviet-style buildings dating back to Kim Il Sung’s rule during which time he used aid provided by Stalinist Russia to modernise Pyongyang while overlooking more rural areas outside his control that remained largely unchanged until after his death in 1994.. During this period numerous iconic monuments such as Juche Tower were constructed along with grandiose government complexes like those found at Moranbong Park & Mansudae Grand Monument alongside major avenues like Ryomyong Street lined statues honoring leaders past & present including President Kim Il-sung & current leader Marshal Kim Jong Un – all forming part what some have described as “grandiose national propaganda”.

North Koreans follow a strict dress code known universally across citizens ranging different genders, ages and classes although Western style clothing can occasionally be seen amongst younger generations who may also use imported technology such cell phones or computers albeit typically heavily censored versions available only through state approved channels – though even these are not widely accessible given how expensive they remain for ordinary citizens living under very limited means compared those living abroad where access foreign goods far easier get hold off . Furthermore religious worship forbidden inside country however there still small communities practicing Buddhism Christianity scattered around outskirts where freedom expression slightly less restricted than heartland itself .

In conclusion , Pyongyang remains highly symbolic place representing power strength dictatorship behind facade glitzy skyscrapers monuments streets devoted towards upholding legacy regime led today Marshal Kim Jung Un – proving source great pride among loyal subjects yet fear foreboding danger outsiders attempting view society without proper authorization granted authorities above them ..
