Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies are an American professional baseball team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Phillies compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member of the National League East division. Since 2004, the team’s home has been Citizens Bank Park, located in South Philadelphia.

The franchise was founded in 1883 as the Quakers and played their first game on May 1st against Dartmouth College at Recreation Park. In 1890 they changed their name to “Phillies” after being purchased by Horace Fogel who wanted to honor veterans of the War of Independence from nearby Fort Mifflin- known colloquially as “the Philadelphias” or simply “the Phils” -and began playing at Baker Bowl stadium which remained its home until 1938 when it moved into Shibe Park with Connie Mack Stadium across 20th Street for another decade before settling into Veterans Stadium where it would play until 2003 before moving back to center city and building what is now Citizens Bank park extending a long term lease agreement through 2040 signaling that even if there may be changes made over time this will remain the teams home field for many years to come .

Throughout its history , The Phillies have won two World Series championships (1980 & 2008), seven National League pennants, four East Division titles; 16 players have been inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame including Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton among other greats such as Robin Roberts , Richie Ashburn , Roy Halladay just too mention a few . They also hold MLB records for most wins within one season going 102-60 during 1993 regular season only losing once more thereafter winning their second world championship title led by manager Jim Fregosi . This record was later tied but not broken when San Francisco Giants achieved same feat 2007 though falling short like phillies did following those respective seasons both times missing out on repeat crowning glory due largely large part due lack timely hitting while facing off against some formidable opponents along way each year respectively speaking

Today under current management lead by General Manager Matt Klentak since 2015 whom succeeded Ruben Amaro Jr., Pat Gillick prior him ; former all star Charlie Manuel held coaching reins prior Gabe Kapler taking charge 2018 then Joe Girardi 2019 onward still helming helm so far today leading phillies vaunted roster featuring core group young stars jt realmuto bryce harper rhys hoskins jean segura scott kingery amongst others usually commanded skipper dugout duties whilst managing staff consisting mike pence larry rothschild dave brundage chris young etc… Although having seen modest success recent past yet nothing compared golden era days 80s 90’s no doubt hopes high better fortunes lie ahead future generations enjoy much further successes await them down road..
