North Korea by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 63 North Korea, officially the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), is a sovereign state in East Asia located on the northern half of the Korean Peninsula. It borders China to the north-west, Russia to its northeast and South Korea to its south with both countries being separated by an approximately 150 mile long demilitarized zone. With an area of 46,540 square miles and population estimated at over 25 million people it is one of the most populous nations in East Asia. The capital city is Pyongyang which serves as home for many government buildings including Kim Il Sung Square where military parades are held annually during national holidays such as Day Of Songun or ‘Military First’ day that celebrates North Korean armed forces achievements since 1953, when after three years from signing armistice agreement with UN Command ended up claiming victory in what known today as ‘The Great Fatherland Liberation War’ against South Korea backed by United States forces. Since then North Koreans have been living under rule of Juche ideology created by country founder Kim Il Sung who was succeeded upon his death in 1994 by son Kim Jong il until 2011 when third generation leader Kim Jong un took power following father’s footsteps keeping country isolated from western world while maintaining ties with their only close ally – China. Besides US-led sanctions imposed due to nuclear weapons program developed back in late 90s economy mostly relies on foreign aid from Chinese goverment and few other states like Thailand or Japan also providing some food supplies but not money given embargoes were put into action making hard times for citizens trying survive poverty even harder than before opening door for potential unrest among them though still kept secret thanks largely too strictly controlled media outlets staying loyal to current regime no matter what happens next leaving future uncertain yet again creating more questions about situation inside DPRK than actual answers available outside so far preventing anyone outside getting any clear idea how things going there anymore without risking own lives doing so first hand if ever possible at all…
