New York by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 96 New York is a state located in the northeastern United States. It borders New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south, and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The capital of New York State is Albany while its most populous city is New York City (often referred to simply as “New York”). With an estimated 19.54 million residents in 2018, it’s one of the most densely populated states in America. The area that would become known as New York has been inhabited since prehistoric times by various Native American tribes including Iroquois and Lenape peoples who practiced farming techniques like corn cultivation. After colonization began towards the end of 16th century by Dutch settlers calling themselves Nieuw Amsterdamers (“new Amsterdammers”), they later surrendered their colony over peacefully to English forces led by Colonel Richard Nicolls on August 27th 1664 which was then renamed “New Yorke” after James II Duke Of Yorke among other titles he held at time . During this period tensions between British colonists increased leading upwarfds Revolutionary War where many battles were fought mostly within modern day borderlines such as Battle Of Long Island or Saratoga Campaigns both resulting ultimately with independence from Britain being declared July 4 1776 eventually forming 13 original colonies now united under single flag .
