Minneapolis

Minneapolis is the largest city in the state of Minnesota, United States. It lies on both banks of the Mississippi River near its confluence with the Minnesota River, and has a population of more than 425,000 as of 2018. The Twin Cities metropolitan area consists of Minneapolis, its neighbor Saint Paul, and suburbs which together contain about 3.6 million people making it 16th-largest in the U.S., further lending to Minneapolis’ status as an important hub for commerce and culture within America’s Midwest region.

The history behind this great city dates back to 1856 when John H Stevens first proposed building a town across from St Anthony Falls on what was then known as East Bank or ‘the other side’. By 1867 he had succeeded at founding three townships: Minneapolis (named after Sioux word meaning “water”), Richfield (after his hometown) and St Anthony named after nearby falls that were found by Father Louis Hennepin during his exploration through Central America in 1680s with French explorers René Robert Cavelier de La Salle & Sieur De la Verendrye). This new settlement quickly grew into one large metropolis thanks to flour mills established along riverfronts—making it an ideal trading port—as well as increased immigration throughout 19th century due to industrial jobs available here compared those Europe where many refugees hail from following World War II period..
