Michael Cohen by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 74 Michael Dean Cohen (born August 25, 1966) is an American attorney and convicted felon who served as a lawyer for President Donald Trump from 2006 to 2018. A native of Long Island, New York, Cohen attended American University in Washington D.C., where he studied political science and business administration. After graduating in 1988, he worked at various law firms before establishing his own practice in 2002. In 2006, Cohen began working with the Trump Organization after being referred by real estate magnate Jay Goldberg. He became executive vice president of the company and was tasked with handling potential conflicts between it and other businesses owned by Trump family members such as Ivanka Trump’s fashion line or Jared Kushner’s media interests among others . In 2017 during investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 United States presidential election ,Cohen acted as one of President Trumps personal lawyers which resulted him eventually pleading guilty to lying about negotiations for a proposed Moscow project on behalf of then-candidate Donald J Trump; this plea stemmed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation culminating into what has been labeled The Stormy Daniels affair resulting in payments made just prior to the 2016 Presidential Election that were found illegal under campaign finance laws . As part of his plea agreement he also alleged that upon orders from Mr Trump himself committed two counts related to campaign finance violations He was sentenced three years imprisonment but ultimately served only 12 months due COVID-19 concerns while incarcerated followed with another period under home confinement ending May 2021 Following his resignation from The White House counsel office former US Attorney General Jeff Sessions appointed Matthew Whitaker special prosecutor overseeing matters relating to Michael Cohens case afterwards prompting many more legal issues than initially anticipated namely involving tax fraud allegations against both himself & associates associated linked directly unto dealings connected him And all parties involved surrounding these alleged activities As well as acting within Presidential circles Michael Cohen also pursued several entrepreneurial projects outside politics including investing 70 million dollars jointly alongside investors towards opening up luxury hotel establishments located throughout Europe notably Prague Czech Republic With everything taken together since entering public life especially post involvement within Donald Trumps campaigns leading up 2019 sentencing following convictions there are still many aspects revolving around Michaels story yet remain unresolved
