Michael Cohen is set to return to the witness stand this Wednesday to continue his testimony against his former employer, Donald Trump, in a civil lawsuit concerning accusations that the ex-president consistently overstated the worth of his real estate assets in financial statements.

In his initial testimony on Tuesday, Cohen disclosed that he, along with senior executives from Trump’s organization, deliberately inflated the appraised values of Trump’s properties to align them with a net worth that Trump had set without any objective basis.

Trump observed the proceedings while his attorney, Alina Habba, cross-examined Cohen, attempting to characterize him as an unreliable witness with a history of lying.

For a significant period, Cohen served as Trump’s legal counsel and problem solver. However, in 2018, he faced legal charges including tax evasion, providing false information to a financial institution and to Congress, and making unauthorized campaign contributions on Trump’s behalf through payments to women who claimed to have had affairs with the Republican. Trump has denied the validity of the women’s accounts, while Cohen asserts that he made the payments at Trump’s behest.

Cohen’s legal issues beginning in 2018 have turned him into an adversary of Trump. Remarkably, Tuesday’s court appearance marked the first time the two men had shared a room in five years.

Cohen described the experience as a significant reencounter.

Upon exiting the courtroom after Tuesday’s session, Trump labeled Cohen a “discredited criminal.”

Cohen is also slated to serve as a critical witness for the prosecution in a forthcoming criminal trial scheduled for the upcoming spring. In this trial, Trump is charged with falsifying business records. This is just one among four criminal cases that Trump is currently facing in jurisdictions including New York, Florida, Georgia, and Washington, D.C.
